Roughly 40% of the world’s planet plant species are under threat and yet plant conservation remains drastically underfunded. The Red List Project is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2018 to combat this plant extinction crisis by targeting plants that are listed on the IUCN Red List which is the international authority for the endangerment of plants and animals.
The purpose of the MANE and Red List Project partnership is not only to bring awareness to the need to conserve these plants, but also to help fund the genuine conservation of these species that need it the most.
The Magnolia Mashpi in Ecuador.
Magnolia is a diverse group of over 300 species of plants. Tragically many of the Magnolia species are also threaten with extinction, Magnolia Mashpi is what we refer to as a keystone species. These species perform all sorts of critical ecosystem functions. They help anchor the soil, they affect water relations in the forest and hence have critical significance for the forest as a whole. Other species of Magnolia found in the boundary zones around this forest are teetering on the brink of extinction and need stewardship now more than ever before.
What makes this partnership unique is that no plants will ever be commercially harvested from the wild. Rather, by utilizing MANE´s proprietary JUNGLE ESSENCE™ extraction technology, our perfumers were able to analyse and authentically recreate the quintessence of what this beautiful flower smells like. Furthermore, future profits from the proceeds of fragrance sales containing Magnolia Mashpi ID JUNGLE ESSENCE™ will be shared with in-country partners to continue to fund the conservation work. As a result of this partnership Magnolia Mashpi ID JUNGLE ESSENCE™ can continue to thrive in its natural habitat.
