Merck highlights sun protection during Cosmetorium

The German company gave a special place to sun protection by showcasing its latest launches and revealing sun trends

Merck, an expert in effect pigments and cosmetic actives, gave sun protection a prominent place at the seventh edition of Cosmetorium. Therefore, it presented the latest additions to the Eusolex® sunscreen range. With the launch of Eusolex® Z-BASE and Eusolex® Z-TEC, Merck is expanding its portfolio of mineral filters, reinforcing the company's strategic focus on strengthening its business and that of its customers with sustainable products.

Market trends, regulatory issues and environmental and safety concerns are driving the increasing use of inorganic filters for sun protection, as are new sun product launches. The approval of zinc oxide as a UV filter in the EU, the regulatory status of GRASE (Generally Recognised As Safe and Effective) in the US and consumers' own demand for more natural and environmentally friendly products have boosted its popularity and the market share of mineral sunscreens is forecast to grow at a rate of 5.2% between 2023 to 2033. The two new Eusolex® Z filters are high purity, uncoated, broad spectrum, inorganic filters with excellent and balanced absorption in the UVB and UVA range, allowing sunscreens to be formulated with high transparency and suitable for all skin tones. Both are COSMOS and HALAL certified.

On the second day of Cosmetorium at the TechFocus, Alexander Kielbassa, Scientific Associate Director of Merck Surface Solutions, revealed interesting facts and information on the latest market trends and regulatory developments. Kielbassa offered tips on formulating with the two new Eusolex® Z and also on how to boost the SPF and blue light protection of sunscreen products with the Ronaflair® range of functional pigments.

As part of its digital transformation strategy, Merck Surface Solutions continues to expand the digital content of its Eshop e-platform, where registered customers have access to a number of tools including the Eusolex® Formulator Finder, an extensive database of sample sunscreen formulations with various SPFs to help formulators stay ahead of the fast-moving sunscreen market with the fantastic Eusolex® filter portfolio.
