Ronaflux® Pigments

Merck introduced at the end of March its innovative range of Ronaflux® pigments that stand out for their high colour intensity and pronounced metallic optical effects achieved completely without the use of metals.
"A striking, colour-intensive appearance with a metallic charm reflects the current popular trend in colour cosmetics. At the same time, it is necessary for manufacturers to meet stricter regulatory requirements and to ensure the stability of colourants and pigments" described Michael Weiden, Head of Commercial EMEA in the Surface Solutions unit within Merck's Electronics division. He explained that Ronaflux® pigments are based on a completely new technology, our customers can meet these challenges while achieving unique effects that are not yet commercially available. The technology behind them is the presence of ultra-thin and highly stable carbon layers that precipitate homogeneously in a gas phase on the pigments, an important precondition for spectacular gloss effects. The carbon layers intensify the colours of the effect pigments, making brilliant shades of blue and green possible without the addition of chromium oxides, Prussian blue or other colourants. This allows eye make-up and lipstick manufacturers to meet stringent regulatory requirements while offering bright, metallic blue and green shades that do not contain metal-based pigments.

Zinc oxide UV filters - for a new generation of sunscreens

Merck also showcased its expanded UV filter portfolio with Eusolex® Z-BASE and Eusolex® Z-TEC, zinc oxide filters that offer highly effective UVB and UVA protection. Eusolex® Z-TEC is extremely transparent on the skin, even in highly concentrated formulations, as is the case in high SPF pure mineral sunscreens. The products meet the highest standards of quality and purity customary in the pharmaceutical industry, are approved according to the COSMOS standard and are Halal-certified.
With the new UV filters, Merck offers solutions for the growing market for pure and environmentally conscious mineral sunscreens.

RonaCare® cosmetic actives from the ocean

In-Cosmetics also served Merck to present two new additions to the highly effective algae-based skin renewal portfolio. RonaCare® JouvaMer and RonaCare® ReviMer have been developed from brown algae from the Brittany coast of France. RonaCare® JouvaMer, an extract from the brown alga Pelvetia canaliculata, is an anti-ageing booster that reduces wrinkles by stimulating collagen synthesis. It also protects and supports the extracellular matrix for denser, smoother skin.
RonaCare® ReviMer, an extract from the brown seaweed Fucus serratus, shows preventive effects.
