The Spanish Consumers' Association has spoken out against the sale of hyaluronic acid injections. The organisation that defends the interests of Spanish consumers warned at the end of January of the serious and harmful consequences for health that can be caused by the use of hyaluronic acid without the corresponding medical application.

As pointed out by La Vanguardia, the Spanish Consumers' Association has issued a press release in which it expressed its concern at the large number of companies selling hyaluronic acid injectables "without any kind of control" so that they can be applied "directly" by consumers.

The organisation seeks through this complaint to control this type of sales, as they qualify it as something "tremendously worrying" and claim that this type of products are only sold to professionals who are dedicated to aesthetic medicine.

Products containing hyaluronic acid are currently, and have been for several years, in great demand in cosmetics for their efficient anti-ageing properties, as they help to retain large amounts of water and their plumping effect on the skin.
