AITEX Focuses on Cosmetic Biotechnology at the IV Cosmetic Industry Congress

More than 200 professionals attended the conference organized by AITEX, which included experts from the Beauty Cluster and the SEQC

The AITEX Research and Innovation Center held the IV Cosmetic Industry Congress on September 18, under the slogan "Biotechnology applied to skin and hair care." The event brought together more than 200 professionals, researchers and representatives of companies in the sector in Alcoy, consolidating itself as a benchmark event for the cosmetic industry in Spain.

The theme of this edition has been the "Biotechnology applied to skin and hair care." Why this theme? Because biotechnology is revolutionizing the cosmetic industry, allowing the development of more effective, sustainable and personalized products. It is used to obtain more potent active ingredients, improve the effectiveness of products and develop treatments for specific skin problems, such as wrinkles, blemishes and sun protection.

The opening of the conference was given by León Grau, president of AITEX, who stressed: "This congress reflects AITEX's firm commitment to becoming a benchmark in the cosmetic field, making it easier for companies to adapt to new market demands through research and development."

The program included presentations by experts such as Federico Grau, CEO of Madeinplant, who analyzed how biotechnology is redefining modern cosmetics; Cristina Guillem, R&D project director, who presented the main trends in biotechnology applied to skin and hair care; and Joaquín Espiñeira, dermatologist, who addressed the uses of cosmetics in clinical settings. Asún Arias, a pharmacist specializing in dermopharmacy, also participated to talk about the potential of biotechnology in chronic skin pathologies, and Consuelo Vaquer, president of the Cosmetics Cluster of the Valencian Community, who presented the work of the cluster and had pointed out: "For our companies it is essential to have meeting spaces like this, where science and industry dialogue and synergies are generated."

After a networking lunch in which attendees were able to connect with each other, success stories were presented by three finalist companies of the AITEX 2024 Business Awards — Marta García, CEO of PROSPERA BIOTECH, Alena Demina, CEO of SYSTEM SKIN and Victoria Gálvez, PhD, business manager of Vytrus Biotech. And moderated by Patricia Gisbert Quilis, Innovation Manager of Beauty Cluster— who showed real applications of biotechnology in their developments.

The conference also included a round table in which they talked about how important biotechnology is in the sector and was moderated by Beatriz García, delegate of Levante of the SEQC, in which M. Paz Pellús, Strategic Consultant & Regulatory Advisor, Elisa Esteve, regulatory at Cosmeservice, María Victoria Lovelle, Innovation Specialist at Beauty Cluster, Carolina Carbonell, director of R&D projects at Germaine de Capuccini and Paula Mira, technical director Nirvel Beauty Group participated.

The conference concluded with professional workshops dedicated to the labeling of cosmetic products, the effectiveness for the claim of claims and the novelties in SPF sun protection.

Vicente Blanes, general director of AITEX, closed the cosmetics congress "We wanted to reinforce AITEX's commitment to the cosmetic industry, creating a space where science and business could meet. Biotechnology has consolidated itself as a strategic axis for the development of innovative and sustainable products, and our goal is to continue accompanying the sector on this path."
