SSymrise introduces SymDiol 68T and SymOcide PT based on tropolone. New data confirms the antioxidant effect of tropolone: it acts effectively to protect against primary and secondary free radicals and stabilises organic compounds that prevent oxidation. It reduces the oxygenation of proteins by 60 percent and the formation of peroxides in sunflower oil by 45 percent. Thanks to these properties, tropolone supports the product protection system of the formulations.

Developed to enhance the product protection system of cosmetic formulations, SymDiol 68T, multifunctional and antioxidant, helps prevent the formation of yeasts, bacteria as well as moulds and stabilises emulsions. It also has proven moisturising properties. SymDiol 68T works well in skin, sun, hair and personal care products as well as in colour cosmetics.

SymOcide PT offers an antioxidant and antimicrobial effect, acting against both bacteria and fungi. Conventional preservatives, such as formaldehyde donors, parabens and isothiazolinones, therefore lose their appeal and are less used in modern product protection. SymOcide PT works well in skin, hair and personal care products, sun protection and colour cosmetics.

Tropolone products as an alternative to conventional protection products

"Consumers are looking for safe and effective products," says Dr Hannah Minges, Global Product Manager at Symrise. "Tropolone-based products have exceeded expectations, as it helps to improve the entire product protection system. We now want to bring these new options to the attention of the market."
