Cosmetic science is knocking on the door of educational provision. A UK university has introduced a preparatory course for students to learn about cosmetic formulation, properties of active ingredients and the main chemicals used in formulations in the professional industry, as reported by the English-language Personal Care Magazine.

The university that has decided to include this course in its educational offer is the University of Bradforfs Bsc, and the course has been presented under the name Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Science and will begin in September and will last for three years, and they will be able to carry out their internships in the industry for a period of between nine and twelve months. There are a number of requirements for applications.

This introductory cosmetics course will place special emphasis on sustainability, which is one of the university's main strategic objectives. It will also focus on inclusive cosmetics and will look at halal, kosher and gelatine-free pharmaceuticals.

Venu Vengala, who is leading the programme, told Personal Care Magazine that the training will enable students to formulate their own products, from anti-ageing moisturisers to make-up products such as coloured lipsticks. He also stressed that this course will provide the tools and skills for young people to enter the world of the industry and to create and present their own products to the rest of the industry.
