France continues to see the number of cosmetics and perfume exports continue to grow in 2023. As explained in a press release by the French Federation for Beauty Companies (FEBEA), despite the fall in some key markets such as China and the United States, the export of this type of products has also risen in 2023.

As the entity points out, exports in cosmetics and perfumery in France grew by 10.8% compared to the previous year and set a new record in turnover with 21.3 billion euros compared to 19.3 billion euros in 2022. This is the third year in which these exports continue to grow in double digits.

The fragrances and perfumes category continues to lead exports in the cosmetics and perfumery sector in France. In 2023, they rose by 10.5% to reach 7.1 billion euros. In addition, the make-up and skin care categories have also improved compared to the previous year, but the most notable growth compared to the previous period has been in the area of hair care.

Despite this growth, the FEBEA points out that in 2023 they have suffered the fall of two of the main destinations to which these products are exported: The United States and China. The United States only exported 2.8% compared to 2022, a year in which exports grew by more than 26% compared to 2021. China, which was the most important exporting country in 2020, continues its restrictive policy from 2021.

The FEBEA has expressed the importance of the cosmetics and perfumery sector within the country's economy: the beauty industry represents more than 40% of the country's total exports in 2023. The entity added that more than 60% of the cosmetic products manufactured are exported and that it has become the second largest contributor to the country's trade balance after the aeronautical and wine sectors.
