L'Oréal has opened its North America Research and Innovation (R&D) Center, located in Clark, New Jersey, United States.

With an investment of 160 million dollars, this state-of-the-art scientific center spans nearly 23,000 square meters and becomes the largest for the company outside of France.

The center will play a key role in strengthening and growing L'Oréal's portfolio of iconic brands in the United States, such as Maybelline, CeraVe, Redken, and Kiehl's, thereby reaffirming the company's presence in the U.S. market.

Among its most notable features are a 2,400 square meter modular laboratory, a consumer experience center for product testing and co-creation (capable of hosting up to 400 consumers daily), and a mini-factory to scale final formulations before large-scale production.

"This center represents L'Oréal's unique model of comprehensive innovation, encompassing everything from Advanced Research on revolutionary new ingredients to the development of formulas ready for large-scale production, ensuring high-performance, safe, and responsible beauty solutions", stated Barbara Lavernos, Deputy CEO of the L'Oréal Group, in charge of Research, Innovation, and Technology.

As part of L'Oréal's global research ecosystem, the center complements its other R&D centers in France, Brazil, South Africa, India, China, and Japan. It also represents a significant and long-term investment in the economy and workforce of the U.S. market.

The center employs over 600 highly skilled scientists, engineers, and researchers who work on innovation, development, and product testing to create safe, high-quality, and relevant beauty solutions for consumers.

The center actively collaborates with leading academics, biotech companies, and startups in the United States to discover, invent, and scale new ingredients, innovative products, and revolutionary advancements that are more sustainable, inclusive, and personalized, tailored to the diverse needs of consumers, skin tones, hair types and textures, as well as their beauty expressions and aspirations”, declared the company.
