As it aims 'Cosmetics Business', Canada has officially banned the testing of cosmetic products on animals.

This legislative measure was officially implemented on 23 June, with governmental approval from the Canadian authorities, which stated that it would also penalise false labelling related to the testing of cosmetics on animals.

As reported in the beauty media, Canada's Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos called animal testing unnecessary and cruel. "Protecting animals now and in the future is something Canadian citizens have been advocating for years. Now, we can ensure that Canada is 'cruelty-free' and we will continue to take the necessary steps to achieve animal welfare."

Lush Cosmetics, Cosmetics Alliance Canada and The Body Shop are among the companies and institutions that have helped the government weigh these measures and put limits on companies that practise these methods.

Brandi Halls, CEO of Lush Cosmetics North America, told 'Cosmetics Business' that, "Canada has heeded the call of the people and put the country on the right side of history by banning this outdated practice."
