BASF has announced the launch of its first aromatic ingredient with a reduced Product Carbon Footprint (rPCF), L-Menthol FCC rPCF, marking a milestone in its commitment to sustainability. This product offers a 10 to 15% reduction in CO₂ emissions compared to its traditional equivalents, without compromising quality.

The company employs a mass balance approach at its production sites, partially replacing conventional raw materials with lower carbon footprint alternatives. This method allows customers to adopt these products without needing to revalidate their existing formulations.

Colgate-Palmolive has been one of the first to incorporate L-Menthol FCC rPCF, aligning with its goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2040.

BASF plans to expand its rPCF portfolio with products such as Citronellol and Geraniol rPCF throughout 2025, responding to the growing demand for sustainable solutions in the cosmetic industry.

This launch reinforces BASF's position as a leader in sustainable innovation, offering its customers effective tools to reduce emissions in their value chain and move towards a greener economy.
