Fashion consumption in Spain closed the first half of 2025 with a 5.5% drop in turnover and in the volume of garments sold, according to the Fashion Consumption Report prepared by the Catalan Fashion Cluster (MODACC) and Worldpanel by Numerator. Although the second quarter (April-June) was less negative than the first, the global trend of the year shows a declining market throughout the Spanish State.

The categories with the worst performance have been women's lingerie and children's fashion. On the contrary, some segments have managed to better contain the decline, such as women's outerwear, men's underwear and hosiery. In volume, the case of swimwear stands out, the only category capable of growing, benefited by seasonality and a more positive second quarter.

The factors that explain the fall

Consumers are more sensitive to price and act rationally

The categories with the worst performance have been women's lingerie and children's fashion. On the contrary, some segments have managed to better contain the decline, such as women's outerwear, men's underwear and hosiery. In volume, the case of swimwear stands out, the only category capable of growing, benefited by seasonality and a more positive second quarter.

To these factors is added that consumers are increasingly sensitive to price and act rationally, analyzing the quality-price ratio in more detail and prioritizing planned purchases instead of impulsive ones.

Regarding the prospects for the second half, the director of the Catalan Fashion Cluster, David García, states that "the sector faces an important challenge in the second half of the year: that the commercial offer and environmental conditions help to recover the lost ground and allow closing 2025 with figures similar to those of last year".
