Last Friday, 8 September, French health authorities withdrew Nuud deodorant from the market after establishing a link between its use and an outbreak of cysts and bacterial infections in the armpits.
The French National Medicines Agency (ANSM) has withdrawn Nuud deodorant after establishing a link between the application of the product and the appearance of cysts in the armpits. The French agency carried out an investigation of painful cysts in people who had used the deodorant. According to the ANSM, the cause of these cysts could be found in the product's oily formula. As explained in the press release, this excess of oil favours the obstruction of pores which can lead to microbial over-infection due to the occlusive effect.
After learning of this relationship, the ANSM contacted the manufacturer and the manufacturer decided to withdraw its products from the market and to temporarily suspend the marketing of the deodorant both in retail outlets and online distributors. Nuud is also expected to modify the formula to avoid the adverse effects they have caused.
Some of the people who used this product, in addition to having these painful cysts in the armpit area, which disappeared after they stopped using the deodorant, also suffered from an infection for which they were treated with antibiotics. In the same press release, the ANSM recommended that people with these symptoms should see their doctor as soon as possible.
In Spain, this product is still on the market and has been advertised by hundreds of influencers on social media. However, on the same social platforms you can find cases of people in Spain who criticise the promotion of these public figures and who have suffered adverse effects such as those mentioned by the French National Medicines Agency. TikTok user @carlaverahuerta reported in June 2022 that after using this personal hygiene product she began to notice scabs forming in her armpits and she claimed that she had never had an allergic reaction.
Nuud has a strong presence on social networks, both with major influencers, but also with micro and nano-influencers. Through these actions they seek to reinforce that it is a natural deodorant cream, super concentrated and that because it is a 'natural formula' it is suitable for all skin types.
