The Beauty Cluster once again highlights innovation in hair care. The Hair Care International Congress celebrates its third edition on October 6 at the BSM of the UPF in Barcelona. The congress has gathered more than 150 professionals from cosmetics, research, and trichology to analyze the latest developments in ingredients, technologies, and scientific approaches to hair care.
The institutional welcome was given by Mar Casquet, member of the Board of Directors of Beauty Cluster, and Adrià Martínez, General Manager of Beauty Cluster, and they gave way to a day led by Victoria Lovelle, Cosmetics Innovation Manager of Beauty Cluster, with more than twenty presentations, networking, and product presentations, which took place from 9:00 AM until past 4:00 PM.
Hair longevity and scalp health, key themes of the congress
The first presentation was given by Dr. Rebeca Gasparin, Hair Care Center Manager and Global Innovation at Symrise, with the presentation "The future of hair longevity: integrating scalp health and fiber resilience." Throughout the morning, the program addressed fiber restoration, hair follicle aging, and sustainable hair repair. Emina Besic Gyenge from RAHN AG presented "From molecular interaction to fiber performance: hair restoration through an Avena strigosa amino acid complex." Rosana Saldaña from Lehvoss spoke about Hyacation™-CHA Pro, an ingredient that follows the trend of hair longevity and scalp health. Leslie Ponce from QIMA Life Sciences presented "Preserving hair longevity: comparative evaluation of a new ex vivo model of BrdU-induced hair follicle aging with rapamycin." For her part, Laia Sallan from Special Chemicals, presented "Microalgae-derived hair keratin mimetic: a biotechnological approach to sustainable hair repair" and shared with the audience the multiple benefits of the ingredient. Valéria Barros Câmara, from Chemyunion, represented by Inquiaroma, closed the first block with "Biodegradable quaternary alkyl amino ester technology for advanced hair conditioning and frizz control."
After the networking coffee, the second part of the morning included a presentation by Ariadna Grau-Campistany from LipoTrue: "From blend to engineering: a keratin and collagen tandem fusion protein for hair performance from root to fiber". Siham Bouhrir from Provital was the next speaker to continue talking about hair longevity in her presentation "Hair longevity driven by Hairspan: biointelligent fiber protection and protein care systems". Dr. José Luis Martínez Meseguer from Gournay Hair Unit shared his experience from the consultation room and the main problems related to the scalp that he encounters in patients and how the sector can face these challenges and needs. Serkan Aykut Adalmaz, from ACTV Biotechnology, spoke about the versatility of exosomes in hair care: "ProliCell® BaiCare: exosome-guided small RNA-driven hair revitalization".
Alopecia, microbiome and plant biotechnology in the afternoon
Before heading to the lunch break so that attendees could enjoy another networking window, Silvia Martínez (BASF) presented "Aloversil, the solution to combat male androgenetic alopecia" and also, on hair growth, Javier Arrieta from Inabata spoke with "Inawave® Polyporus: a sustainable innovation for hair growth and holistic scalp care".
After the networking lunch, the program continued telematically with María José Fabrega from Synflora and Universitat Pompeu Fabra to talk about microbiome-based innovations for hair and scalp health. Victoria Gálvez from Vytrus Biotech presented the concept of microenvironmental design in hair care and explained innovative strategies based on plant biotechnology. Neelam Sagoo from TRI-K Industries spoke about DensiFoll™: bioactive technology to improve hair density and scalp health.
The final stretch of the day revolved around a comprehensive vision of hair, combining ingredients of natural and sustainable origin with a more global perspective on hair health. Dr. Manuela Bermúdez from Quimivita presented "Vita Smoothies: micronized fruit smoothies that improve sensoriality and hair vitality," and Raffaella Matarazzo, trichologist and clinic manager at Cosmohair Clinic, proposed, from clinical practice, "Hair as a reflection of the balance between body, mind, and environment." They were joined by Irene Delgado from ROKA Furadada, with "ROKA CIRKLE® KANIGÓ: a holistic and upcycling solution to revitalize hair and scalp," a proposal that unites hair revitalization and circular economy.
The block continued with high-performance ingredients and the most advanced research. Miguel Cabello from MC Actives, who presented "MC SILK AminoAcids® Vegan HDS: new generation vegan silk proteins designed for high-performance hair care," and Nayeli Juarez Tenorio from THOR, provided efficacy evidence with "SEM evidence of hair protection with an olive-inspired quaternary ammonium diesterquat: Microcare® Quat LDG." The day's presentations were closed by Julia Boras from Complife Iberia with "Beyond the image: omics in hair and scalp research," which put the finishing touch before the closing.
