The chemical company BASF founded in 1865, has achieved his commitment to obtain all the oils of palm certified of sustainable sources described by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil in 2021.
As they explained the past year, the company already reached his marked commitment in 2020 that consisted in provide of oil of palm and palm kernel of sources certified by the RSPO. 2 years ago, BASF purchased more than 227.000 metric tonnes of oil of palm and palm kernel sustainable certificate. Besides, in this same year, the company could avoid more than 300.000 metric tonnes of broadcasts of CO2.
In the 2021, this figure of purchase of oil of palm kernel certificate increased with regard to the 2020: the company bought 242.946 metric tonnes of oil of palm kernel certified in 2021, what symbolises 100% of the total volume of the shopping. In comparison with the conventional supply, BASF avoided more than 330.000 metric tonnes of broadcasts of CO2.
As it has explained in his press release, BASF already focuses in the following part of his voluntary commitment to the that adhered in 2014: expand it to those significant intermediaries that base in oil of palm and oil of palm kernel for 2025.
