The German company Symrise has launched a production unit in Granada to manufacture bio-based pentylene glycol, used as an ingredient in cosmetics and personal care.
The opening seeks to guarantee a more stable supply in Europe, reduce transport distances and, with it, the emissions associated with logistics. This facility replicates the structure of another plant that the company operates in the United States, which allows increasing global production capacity.
Pentylene glycol has multiple applications in cosmetic formulations: it contributes to the preservation of products, improves the texture of the formulas and favors the action of other components.
From a technical point of view, the new plant works with a continuous process designed to maintain constant quality and optimize energy efficiency. It also incorporates a hydrogen generation and recycling system that reduces its environmental impact, as well as a high degree of automation to reinforce safety and efficiency in operations.
The facility will generate employment in the region and is integrated into a broader decentralized production strategy, in order to respond to the growing demand for sustainably sourced ingredients in the cosmetic sector
