Manufacture of cosmetics and perfumery products falls in August

The National Statistics Institute published yesterday the industrial production figures for the month of August. Overall, industrial production fell by 3.6% in August. The production of cosmetics, which is included in the category "Manufacture of soaps, detergents and other cleaning and polishing preparations; manufacture of perfumes and cosmetics", was not spared from this decline. In the month of August, the production index of this category reached the lowest value since December last year, breaking the upward trend since the first month of the year, which was only interrupted in the month of April.However, with respect to the indicator showing the evolution of production so far this year, it continues to show positive values and remains constant in line with the values for the rest of the year. As for the manufacture of other chemical products, which include essential oils, it does not follow the same path as the previous category. In this case, the current year's variation is negative and also decreases compared to July and falls to its lowest figure since August of the previous year.By branches of activity, those whose production fell the most in year-on-year terms were clothing manufacturing (-24.1%); the wood and cork industry (-17.4%) and the leather and footwear industry (-15.7%).
