The Japanese cosmetics and perfumery giant, Shiseido, has closed the first six months of the fiscal year with a notable increase in its financial results. The company recorded a total turnover of 498,965 million yen (approximately 3,163 million dollars), which represents a nominal growth of 6.2% compared to the same period of the previous year (although it implies a slight variation of -1% if measured at a constant exchange rate).
The most outstanding aspect of the Japanese multinational's accounts has been the evolution of its profitability: the group's net profit managed to triple compared to the first half of the previous year, driven by the operational optimization plan, the containment of fixed costs, and the recovery of the margin in the second quarter.
By geographical areas, sales performance was distributed as follows during the semester:
-
Japan and China: Business remained flat year-on-year. In China, the firm highlighted the positive performance of strategic luxury segment brands such as NARS and Clé de Peau Beauté.
-
Asia-Pacific: Recorded the largest regional rebound with an advance of 2%.
-
America and Europe: Both regions experienced a slight decline of -1% in their invoiced sales.
The group, under the executive direction of Kentaro Fujiwara, maintains its objectives for the entire year focused on recovering sustainable profitability, strengthening its key skincare brands, and accelerating its presence in digital channels and in the travel retail segment.
