Textile sector forecast big financial losses

Texfor anticipates losses due to the water consumption restrictions imposed by the Generalitat de Catalunya this February. Catalonia is facing an unprecedented drought situation, and government authorities have been forced to implement a package of measures to curb water consumption in private homes and households, as well as in companies and facilities.

The Confederation of the Textile Industry has issued a press release stating that the sector could face losses of an average of 25% in production processes. "The Catalan textile industry is totally disconcerted by the recent water restrictions decreed by the Government of Catalonia". They stress that companies in the textile sector have already been hard hit by the price crisis and the rise in energy prices.

Texfor has coordinated and carried out an internal study in which it states that 73% of companies anticipate severe economic impacts as a result of the implementation of the restrictions. "Respondents say they will suffer an average reduction of 25% in expected production, with consequent economic losses. The impact is particularly high in the case of dyeing, printing and finishing factories." These companies will be particularly affected because energy and water are the basic pillars of their production, as the association explained.

Texfor, in its press release, states that it is working to establish a direct line of communication between the authorities and the affected companies to find out what the next steps and guidelines will be to address the situation.
