The multinational Eurofragance will unveil its fourth patented perfume ingredient at the Beautyworld Middle East trade show in Dubai, on October 27, 2025. The latest exclusive raw material from the Spanish fragrance house brings opulence to fragrance compositions. Opulence in perfumery consists of offering consumers fragrances rich in terms of their ingredients. Olivante® fulfills this objective in a more ethical and sustainable way.
A Touch of Opulence in Fragrance Creation
As a global leader in fragrance design in the Middle East, Eurofragance welcomes Olivante®, a new addition to its palette of ingredients capable of bringing opulence to fragrance creation, a characteristic highly valued in perfumes from the Persian Gulf region. Phenolic and animalic notes reminiscent of castoreum are often valued in mukhallat-style creations, and Olivante® possesses many of these olfactory properties.
Olivante® is not only aimed at the Middle Eastern public, it can also highlight typical ingredients of Western perfumery. Eurofragance perfumers, who have been formulating with this captive ingredient, say that by adding Olivante®, fruity notes become more intense; sweet notes become more exquisite and attractive, and certain white flower notes gain potency. Since Olivante® is made from the residual olive matter resulting from oil extraction, it does not have an oily smell.
Belén Garcia, Master Perfumer at Eurofragance who works with this raw material, states: "In recent years, we have seen how Western consumers have become more open to Middle Eastern perfumery. The powerful notes of leather and oud have gained acceptance among consumers, far beyond the Persian Gulf region. Olivante® is multifaceted and offers some of these olfactory aspects that are currently highly sought after in different geographies."
Upcycling: How to Turn Olive Pulp into a Perfumery Ingredient
When creating its fourth patented raw material, Eurofragance followed its sustainability philosophy. It collaborated with a partner in the olive oil industry that upcycles olive waste, transforming it into different derivatives after extracting the oil from the fruit.
Felipe San Juan, R&D Manager Ingredients and Fragrance Performance, and Magdalena Rey, Technical Perfumer, both part of the Eurofragance team, spent months scouring the Spanish countryside in search of the olive variety with the right concentration of volatile compounds and desired precursor chemicals.
Since different varieties of olives generate different odorous waste, this search was important in identifying, first of all, the residual material with the most promising olfactory profile. They worked for more than two years with a waste management engineer from a specific region of Spain to obtain the ideal original material. Afterward, Eurofragance transformed and refined it through an environmentally friendly, multi-stage purification process, until obtaining a new perfumery ingredient called Olivante®.
The result is an upcycled and 100% natural perfumery raw material. "Olivante® cannot be made from just any olive pulp. The terrain and climate of the region are key to this project. Afterwards, we apply our scientific knowledge in order to qualify and separate the essential odor molecules needed to create an attractive captive ingredient," says San Juan.
Olivante® is undergoing patent review.
An iconic Mediterranean ingredient
The name Olivante® is related to the Levant, the cradle of the olive tree, which the Phoenicians spread westward across the Mediterranean until it finally reached Spain. Today, Eurofragance, the prominent Spanish fragrance house, presents Olivante®, a perfumery ingredient with a Spanish legacy and great appeal for consumers worldwide.
Sine Guçetil, Global Marketing Director of Eurofragance, explains: “Olivante® stands out for its ability to offer richness or opulence in perfumes in a fresher and lighter way. Furthermore, it is not only intended for fine perfumery. Our first attempts to formulate personal and home care products with Olivante® are promising, and we believe that this is a patented ingredient with great potential to be adopted by a wider market.”
In addition to proposing a new olfactory experience, this natural ingredient is likely to attract professionals looking to offer their consumers products with a sustainable narrative.
