Shiseido has developed two artificial intelligence systems that allow identifying relevant biodegradability information in cosmetic ingredients and identifying other values related to safety. In this way, the company invests in digital transformation and strengthens its R&D strategy.
The company's first innovation is AI-QSAR, a method that predicts the biodegradability of how cosmetic ingredients break down into natural substances such as water and carbon dioxide. This innovation is developed in collaboration with the National Institute of Technology and Evaluation of Japan, with the Ministry of Economy, Trade. The system analyzes chemical structures to offer precise biodegradability predictions. This type of processes that previously could take between one and two months, now the results can be known in real time, reducing the dependence on individual experience and exhaustive laboratory tests.
The second development in which artificial intelligence improves Shiseido's processes is a system that extracts more safety information and relevant data about ingredient safety, incliying toxicity, irritation, and allergy risks. The tool improves and allows specialists to focus on the decisions final of safety.
