DIVERSA Technologies, a Galician biotechnology company specializing in lipid systems for active ingredient delivery, presented Sphirence on September 11 and 12 at the 13th edition of Pont-Up Store (Pontevedra), one of Galicia's main innovation and entrepreneurship events. Beyond the recognition obtained, the event offered the company something especially valuable for an ingredient technology: the opportunity to converse directly with the end consumer.
A delivery platform that transforms active ingredients into differentiated innovative ingredients
Sphirence is a biomimetic delivery platform designed for the encapsulation of cosmetic and nutraceutical active ingredients. Its architecture combines a biomimetic lipid shell, inspired by the skin's own lipids, with a fortifying antioxidant core. This design is aimed at improving the stability, protection, and release of active ingredients, to ensure versatility in terms of integration into different formula formats.
For brands, the value of Sphirence goes beyond encapsulation: the technology allows transforming an active ingredient into a differentiated ingredient, providing a layer of innovation with its own value proposition and a story to convey to the consumer. The platform stems from DIVERSA's experience in the biomedical field, a sector with very high demands for reproducibility and quality control, and brings that knowledge to cosmetic formulation.
In this edition, which received 151 applications and brought together 48 projects, DIVERSA was also one of the eight startups selected for Pont-Up Venture, the space aimed at technology-based companies with growth potential. There, it presented Sphirence's business model to professionals linked to investment funds and vehicles.
The end consumer, at the center
One of Sphirence's objectives at Pont-Up Store was to move beyond the strictly professional environment and test the technology with those who ultimately use the products. The Sphirence stand became a point of conversation with visitors of very diverse profiles, who shared their main concerns in skin care and their perception of a scientifically based encapsulation technology.
The response was very positive. The most repeated demands from the public were hydration, maintenance, reinforcement of the skin barrier, and antioxidant protection, all without compromising light and non-sticky textures: benefits that are at the core of Sphirence's design. Visitors also showed notable interest in knowing what is behind an ingredient and the technologies born from biomedical research, reflecting an increasingly informed and demanding consumer.
"For a technology that reaches the market as an ingredient, listening to the end consumer is fundamental. At Pont-Up, we confirmed that what people look for in their skincare routine matches what we have designed Sphirence for: hydration, barrier care, antioxidant protection, and pleasant textures. This reception, along with the recognition in Health and Wellness, encourages us to continue bringing technology closer to brands that want to differentiate themselves," explains Abi Vázquez, co-founder and COO of DIVERSA.
Recognition in Health and Wellness
DIVERSA's participation culminated with Sphirence's recognition in the Health and Wellness category of Pont-Up Store 2026. The award highlights the transfer of scientific and biotechnological knowledge to the market and the development of new applications from technologies born in the biomedical field.
With this experience, DIVERSA strengthens its proposal for cosmetic and dermo-cosmetic brands, both nationally and internationally, that seek to differentiate their launches with better-protected active ingredients, stable formulations, and sensorially pleasant textures, backed by a scientifically based technology.
From biomedicine to advanced cosmetics
DIVERSA's leap into cosmetics responds to a clear trend in the sector: the convergence between biomedical science and skin care. The company applies the same principles of rational design and quality control with which it develops lipid systems for biomedical applications to cosmetic formulation, offering formulators a tool to address common challenges such as the stability of sensitive active ingredients or their integration into light textures.
