Two companies from the Beauty Cluster collaborate with the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona in an exhibition that focuses on the conception, interpretation, and impact of beauty. Vytrus Biotech and Roka Furadada have wanted to leave their mark on this exhibition.
The Catalan startup Roka Furadada has wanted to be part of the exhibition by showing the impact of innovation within the beauty industry through the presentation of a natural-origin cosmetic ingredient, called Sotabosk obtained from a byproduct of the paper industry that is usually considered waste. For its part, Vytrus Biotech has also presented how plant biotechnology is used in the cosmetic sector and has provided some of its ingredients so that visitors to the exhibition can learn about the beauty industry from another point of view, forgetting superficiality and highlighting its most innovative role.
The CCCB inaugurated this exhibition last May 21 and will be open to visitors until next November 8. The exhibition revolves around the ideals of beauty that have existed in all eras and cultures.
In the words of the exhibition's curators, Janice Li, Blanca Arias, and Júlia Llull Sanz, we live in a society that, since very remote times, lives in a constant pursuit of beauty.
The exhibition offers a critical look at the construction of beauty canons, from antiquity to the present day, and analyzes the role played by art, society, politics, religion, or medicine. It also delves into the cosmetic industry in the design and commercialization of products and focuses on the skin, hair, or flesh as battlefields in the struggle for body control.
This exhibition stems from a project by one of the curators, Janice Li, at the Wellcome Collection in London, and Blanca Arias and Júlia Llull have decided to adapt it to the local context of Barcelona.
On the first day of the exhibition open to the media, the three curators highlighted the importance of embracing diversity and the relationship of this quality with beauty. The first visit was made together with the curators and some of the collaborating artists were present during the tour so journalists were able to learn firsthand the meaning of some of the works and how they interpreted everything related to beauty. Some of the artists who are part of this exhibition, which will be present until next November, are: Sandra Gamarra, Esther Ferrer, Regina José Galindo, Maria Alcaide, Marina Vargas, William Hoghart or Colita.
