Demand of sun care products increase in pharmacies

The demand for sun products is also growing in pharmacies. According to the Cofares Trends Observatory, in the last four years demand has increased by 40% thanks to greater awareness of sun damage by the population.

However, the pharmaceutical distributor has experienced a decrease of 4% compared to the same period of the previous year and the main reason, according to the report, has been the adverse weather conditions of April and May in most of the country.

The rebound in demand for sun products began to grow just after the pandemic, in 2021, when Spanish society returned to the streets and to normality. Now, the category of products for sun care represents 93% of total demand.

Within sun care products, aftersun maintains its decreasing trend with 11% less demand compared to the previous year. Tanning activators, on the other hand, maintain a rebound in demand, with 5% more, self-tanners 62% more compared to the previous year.

According to Cofares, the increase in activators and self-tanners is due to the delay in direct sun exposure. This has favored the search for alternatives to enhance or simulate tanning.
