The European Union has in his schedule reduce the consumption of plastic in 55% for the year 2030, and each country member has to implement a law to fulfil this put. Of all the countries of the European Union, only Spain and Italy were marked concrete measures. However, Italy has decided to withdraw from this initiative after the last elections and the entry of the far-right into government. Spain, on the other hand, continues with the implementation of this law that will enter into force in 2023.

The law establishes a tax of €0.45 per kilogram for all single-use plastic, only recycled plastic is exempt and that is for more than one use, in addition to pharmaceuticals that also enjoy this exemption.

This law also has generated worries regarding the bureaucracy and the necessary infrastructure for it implementation. The definite BOE published on 30 December 2022 to fulfil with the date of implementation in 2023, but still has not presented a model of clear inventory. This has generated a moratorium in the presentation of the documentation until July. The payment of the tax, however, will have to effect immediately. The sector, in general, concerns by the fault of information and the additional costs that will generate .

In my opinion, this measure is not the suitable way to reduce the consumption of plastic. They need incentives for the consumption of plastic recycled, in place to penalise his use. Besides, this law adds a bureaucratic cost and of infrastructure without a clear understanding of how apply it, what increases the costs for all, so much if it recycles as if no. Other countries of the European Union, do not apply this law, what generates worries on his true purpose.
